Phase One of MidState Medical Center�s New Emergency Department and Building Expansion Project Complete

MidState Medical Center is pleased to announce that the first phase of its $45 million expansion project is complete. With a new Emergency Department that has increased from 10,200 square feet to 23,300 square feet, new main entrance and lobby area, and additional inpatient unit, the project as a whole will add approximately 100,000 square feet of space to the hospital by September.

Cheryl Ann Suzio, the Vice President for Safety at The L. Suzio York Hill Trap Rock Quarry Company of Meriden, has been named the James M. Christie Safety and Health Professional of the Year. The award is given by the National Stone Sand and Gravel Association. It provides national recognition to an individual who has made superior and substantial contributions to his or her company's and the Aggregate industry's efforts toward proactive safe operating practices. "I'm honored to have been acknowledged by my peers committed to worker safety," said Suzio. "They are people that I have known for quite some time and for whom I have the utmost respect." Suzio began her career at York Hill nearly 25 years ago after spending time in Maine as an educator. She then came back home to Meriden where she grew up, and where her family has been a construction materials supplier since the late 1800's. In January Suzio was also named the 2009 "AggMan of the Year" by "Aggregates Manager Magazine". "When I began working for my father I had no idea that it would lead to me being involved in so many different organizations in and around the industry," said Suzio. "My role as safety director has allowed me to lend a hand in making my family's business the success that it is today." Since 1912 York Hill has produced stone out of its quarry located on Westfield Road in Meriden. Currently that location also operates both a concrete and asphalt plant. Suzio Concrete is also produced at locations in Cromwell as well as Wallingford and New Haven, both of which have recently serviced major construction projects across Connecticut. They include The Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New haven, Quinnipiac University's new campus and development of the States new Q Bridge.
