Quinnipiac Gorge Linear Trail

The Quinnipiac Gorge Linear Trail Gets a Green Light

Current Status:  Work is underway for a 1.4 mile linear trail from Finch Avenue to Red Bridge along the road bed of the former Meriden Waterbury Railroad.

Recent History:  This is the first section of trail to be undertaken in Meriden.  More trails are planned including up Harbor Brook, created as part of the Flood Control Project, and another linear trail up Soddom Brook along more of the former Railroad right of way.  The expected completion date for the Quinnipiac Gorge Linear Trail will be in Ocober of 2006.

Background:  The goal is to build a paved and Handicapped Accessible trail throughout the City of Meriden.  Eventually the system of trails will ring the Meriden City Center and tie into the existing trails in Wallingford and Cheshire.  The Quinnipiac Gorge Linear Trail project will cost approximately $700,000 of mostly federal funds.  The project is facilitated by the leadreship of the Linear Trail Committee chaired by Joe Zajac.
