President's Message

As President of The Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce in Meriden, Connecticut, I would like to welcome all of you to the Chamber web site. Stop by and visit us often!

The Chamber Newsletter - September 2010

R 2010 Drive, our big membership drive, is off to a great start with close to 70 volunteers (and growing) who are creating LOTS of excitement in the area.  Our kickoff on August 23rd at Violi’s Restaurant was both fun-filled and most productive at the same time.  Numerous leads were distributed to our nine VERY competitive teams.

At the kickoff, our team leaders each discussed their unique sales solicitation strategies with their teams.  Our dedicated teams and their fearless team leaders are:

*      The Dream Team - Al Baez of La Insurance

*      Team Barberino - Alan Barberino of Alan Barberino Real Estate

*      Team Infinity - Joe Criscuolo of The Home Store Real Estate

*      Team X-Treme - Yvonne de Angeli-Fontanez of the Four Points by Sheraton Meriden

*      Members on a Mission Team - Pam Fields of ARC of Meriden Wallingford

*      Team Hola! - Tari Marshall-Day of the Hampton Inn  Meriden -Wallingford

*      Team Chamber Champions - Marc Nemeth of  Jonal Laboratories Incorporated

*      Team Par Excellence - Richard J. Pendred of A & A Office Systems

*      Team Welsh - Thomas J. Welsh of Brown & Welsh, PC

You can track the success of our 2010 Drive on the “Membership” section of our website.  The drive runs through the end of September  and every member can participate by contacting your favorite team leader with the names of your business colleagues and we’ll invite them to join the Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce.

R In anticipation of a hugely successful 2010 Drive, we have scheduled our “Friday Morning Coffee Break” for August 27th, September 17th and October 15th.  This is a regular and an informal program at the Chamber office at 8:00 a.m. for prospective, new and seasoned Chamber members to pick our brains and learn more about our Chamber and the communities we serve.  All are welcomed.  You may RSVP from the Events page of the Chamber website at www.meridenchamber.com.

R Our next Breakfast Club Celebrates Breakfast is on Friday, September 24th and the theme is “Back to School”.  We are pleased to announce that Mark D. Benigni, the new Superintendant of Schools in the City of Meriden, will be our guest speaker and our shining star award recipient is Barbra Fraser.  The cost is $18.00 in advance, $20.00 at the door, $25 .00 for members-to-be.

R The recent activity of the Bond Commission which just allocated $260 million to the New Haven, Hartford , Springfield commuter rail line is just the beginning…the application with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was formally filed in August as well to expand the light rail/commuter line into a High Speed and Inter City (HSIC) project as part of the President’s Vision for High Speed Rail. The HSIC program is a very competitive national grant program and ConnDOT anticipates a response from FRA in the fall.  This is a great time to contact your congresspersons and senators in DC to tell them to actively support the application that New England has put forth.  Visit www.nhhsrail.com for more details.

R This is the time of the year when we offer “Early Bird Specials” for our on-line website advertising and for our 2011 Annual Chamber Membership Directory and Community Guide.  These two promotional opportunities offer the widest distribution of your message.  Call the chamber today to take advantage of the current discounts which run through September 30th.

R Mark your calendars for the end of the month…The “Main & Vine” AND “Main ARTery” wine tasting and fine art showcase on September 30th and the “Silver City Brewfest” is on October 1st.  Mark your calendars to save the date!

R Want to reduce your energy usage and improve your bottom line?  Chamber member Northeast Utilities is promoting opportunities to save money which are funded through the CT Energy Efficiency Fund.  The Small Business Energy Advantage Program is a program for existing buildings that begins with a no-cost energy assessment of your business facility to determine your potential energy savings.  Zero percent financing may be available for qualified customers purchasing energy efficient upgrades.  Eligible commercial and industrial customers are businesses with an average 12 month peak demand from 10 to 200kW.

For more information about this program, call the chamber, visit www.CTEnergyInfo.com or call 1-877-WISE-USE.  Similar programs also are offered for customers of UI.
