Hanover Dam Rebuild Project
Hanover Dam Rebuild Project gets a Green Light - It has been completed.
Current Status: The Hanover Dam Rebuild Project has been completed. Two ribbon cuttings were held on July 18th, 2006 with Representative Chris Donovan and with Governor M. Jodi Rell. The structure is complete with a fish ladder to facilitate the fish returning upstream. Malone & McBroome have been awarded the contract to construct the fish ladder at the Wallace Dam in Wallinford to facilitate the fish migration from Hanover Pond to Long Island Sound.
Recent History: The project wa completed as part of Statewide ongoing efforts to ensure dam safety. The State provided 2/3 of the funding and the city provided 1/3 of the just over $3 million project.
Background: The Flood Control Implementation Agency was asked by the City of Meriden to faclitate this project. This project is the end of the efforts to replace weak dams owned by of the City of Meriden. The reconstruction of the Broad Brook, Black Pond, Baldwin Pond and Mirror Lake dams has all recently been completed.
