Current Status: While some progress is being seen, there is no long-term solution to the reality or perception of a parking problem in downtown Meriden. In the mean time, downtown landlords are still expressing their concern that prospective tenants are unwilling to commit to leased space if they cannot get a commitment of parking spaces for their customers and employees. The Midtown parking garage is at its capacity.
Recent History: As of August 2006, the budgeted improvements have been made to the Church Street lot including improvements in signage, lighting and resurfacing were included. In addition, the Butler Street lot has been reconfigured to remove some of the curb cuttings to increase the capacity of the lot. Background: The City of Meriden funded the Fuss & O'Neil Inc. parking study to conduct an inventory and conduct an analysis of existing and future parking demand in downtown Meriden. Short term, intermediate and long term parking solutions were proposed. The report was delivered in draft form on January 25, 2005.
