Silver City Properties, LLC gets a Green Light

Current Status:
The project is moving along nicely and the City Council resolution to approve the sale should be on the next City Council agenda.  Then the work can begin for the new owner.

Recent History: On June 6, 2006, the ED Task Force Selection Committee, consisting of City Manager Kendzior, City Planner Carouso, Economic Development Director Brennan and Community Development Director Loin) ranked the remaining 3 proposals with Silver City Properties, LLC as the highest ranking proposer.   On July 26, 2006, the Selection Committee recommended that the sale transaction be referred to City Council to be sold to Silver City properties as per conditions of the Council resolution, term sheet and the exterior improvement requirements.  One of the conditions is to allow the Castle Craig Players to remain at 57 West Main Street at zero rent (triple net) as long as the playhouse remains a non-profit corporation.

Background:  In October of 2005, the Economic Development (ED) Task Force recommended that City staff meet with interested parties to assess the level of interest in the West Masin and Grove Street properties.

In December of 2005 and courtesy of a HUD grant, the City of Meriden received the "Feasibility Assessment for Arts Facilities and Related Projects in Meriden, Connecticut" report prepared by Hunter Interests of Annapolis, MD.  The final report included a section on "Feasibility Assessment of Artist Housing" which detailed a "Proposed Artist Housing Project - Castle Craig Players Buiilding".

On April 3, 2006, the City Council approved a resolution to order the ED Task Force to review the four proposals per normal RFP criteria.  One proposer dropped out.
